Surinamers say 'NO' to whaling

EN DOEN OP DIT CRUCIAAL MOMENT EEN DRINGENDE OPROEP AAN:
DE PRESIDENT VAN DE REPUBLIEK SURINAME,

1.Om de eerder ingenomen standpunten van de Staat Suriname te herzien en te kiezen voor een wereld waarin personen bewust werken aan de voortdurende verbetering van hun milieu en niet alleen een groen, schoon en gezond Suriname bevorderen, maar tevens een harmonieuze samenleving op aarde waar mensonwaardig gedrag naar mens en dier wordt uitgebannen;

2.Niet langer ondersteuning te geven aan de voorstellen van Japan, Noorwegen en IJsland voor het doden van walvissen;

3. Uit te treden uit de International Convention for the Regulation of Whaling;

4.De vertegenwoordigers van de Republiek Suriname die aanwezig zullen zijn op de jaarlijkse vergadering van de International Whaling Commission in Agadir, Marokko van 21-25 juni 2010, instructies te geven te stemmen tegen het voorstel om de commerciële walvisvangst te hervatten of zich te onthouden van stemmen;

5.Dat zolang Suriname niet is uitgetreden uit de International Convention for the Regulation of Whaling, de vertegenwoordigers van de Republiek Suriname altijd zullen stemmen a) tegen de walvisvangst, ongeacht of die voor wetenschappelijke of commerciële doeleinden is, of b) zich zullen onthouden van stemmen op de jaarlijkse bijeenkomsten van de International Whaling Commission.

LATEN WIJ ONZE WAARDIGHEID ALS NATIE TERUGNEMEN EN NIET LANGER ONZE STEM VERLENEN AAN EEN PRAKTIJK, DIE HET ECOLOGISCH EVENWICHT OP AARDE VERSTOORT EN DIE MENSONWAARDIG IS.

LATEN WIJ ONS GROEN IMAGO CONSISTENT UITDRAGEN EN IN GEDACHTEN HOUDEN DAT DE COMMERCIELE OF WETENSCHAPPELIJKE WALVISVANGST NIET IN ONS BELANG IS.

EN LATEN WIJ ONS VOEGEN BIJ DE NATIES OP ONS CONTINENT DIE DEZE PRAKTIJK VEROORDELEN EN BIJ DE NATIES IN ONZE REGIO, DIE ONS GEBIED UITDRAGEN ALS EEN ECO-VRIENDELIJKE REGIO.

AT THIS CRUCIAL MOMENT WE MAKE AN URGENT APPEAL TO:
THE PRESIDENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF SURINAME,

1.To reject the earlier adopted position of the State of Suriname and choose for a world of people who consciously work to improve their environment, and not only promote a green, clean and healthy Suriname, but also advocate for a harmonious society on Earth in which behavior unworthy of humans towards humans and animals is halted;

2.To no longer support the proposals of Japan, Norway and Iceland to kill whales;

3. To withdraw from the International Convention for the Regulation of Whaling;

4.To instruct the representatives of the Republic of Suriname who will be present at the annual meeting of the International Whaling Commission in Agadir, Morocco from 21-25 June 2010, to vote against the proposal to resume commercial whaling or to abstain from voting;

5.That for as long as Suriname does not withdraw from the International Convention for the Regulation of Whaling, the representatives of the Republic of Suriname will always either a) vote against whaling, irrespective of whether it is for scientific or commercial purposes, or b) abstain from voting at the annual meetings of the International Whaling Commission.

LET US TAKE BACK OUR DIGNITY AS A NATION AND NOT LONGER GIVE OUR VOTE TO A PRACTICE, WHICH DISTURBS THE ECOLOGICAL BALANCE ON EARTH AND WHICH IS UNWORTHY OF HUMANS.

LET US CONSISTENTLY PROPAGATE OUR GREEN IMAGE AND KEEP IN MIND THAT COMMERCIAL OR SCIENTIFIC WHALING IS NOT IN OUR INTEREST.

AND LET US JOIN THE NATIONS ON OUR CONTINENT THAT CONDEMN THIS PRACTICE AND JOIN THE NATIONS IN OUR REGION, WHICH PROMOTE THIS AREA AS AN ECO-FRIENDLY REGION.
