In 2006 a lawsuit was filed by The KidsVoice Advocacy Organization, seeking additional transitional help for youth aging out of the child welfare system (foster care system).

It was determined that far too few youth were being given the resources sustain employment. This lawsuit resulted in the creation of the youth in transtion programs. If you turned 18 anytime after 2006, you were to beinformed of these options. (Aging Up , Not Out :Moving Youth From Foster Care to Employability prepared by Bruce Barron)( http://www.michigan.gov/fyit)

We, the undersigned, call on the state of Michigan to make an exception for the youth who after the creation of these programs aged out and were not properly informed in a way they understood, of their rights.

These programs hep to gain employment to sustain employment to pursue degrees and eliminate the many barriers that foster youth have. These barriers include lack of or 0 support (systems), lack of employment, lack of job experience, lack of understanding of basic life skills, lack of transportation, under employment, inability to take care of their families due to these barriers.

More importantly we ask that the age limit be extended on the following: Scholarships, the YIt fund , any resources for higher and basic education (such as a GED, college and or University) Give us the keys to successes door, allow us to understand our values as people by bettering ourselves, invest in our futures so that we may invest in yours and other transitioning foster youth.

The Support the youth who were misplaced after the YIT fund was established petition to The Office of Childrens Ombudsman was written by Dionna Hardiman and is in the category Children's Rights at GoPetition.
