On January 30th 2015, Chairman Jim Holding and CEO Geoff Cockerill reported Stuart Law stepped down as coach for the Queensland Bulls and the Brisbane Heat, as a result of a review of performances of the Brisbane Heat after they finished last in the KFCT20 Big Bash League. The translation in layman’s terms is that Stuart was sacked. Sacked for doing his job. Sacked for having standards and expecting results.

Stuart is a man of integrity. He expects commitment from his players, his coaching staff and the very men that are heading Queensland Cricket. A recent survey was carried out by Queensland Cricket, to gather qualitative findings regarding the performance of the Queensland Cricket coaching and structure, to which no findings have been publicised to the public, yet, somehow, Stuart was the only member of staff that has been hung out to dry in this sorry saga.

Stuart Law OAM, is an icon of Queensland Cricket, having captained the 1994-95 Shield team to victory that ended Queensland’s 68 year championship drought, and followed that with another Shield title in 1996-97, as well as Pura Cup trophies in 1999-2000, 2000-2001 and 2001-02. He was also captain of two domestic one-day championship teams for the Bulls. He coached Queensland to last season’s Ryobi Cup one-day title.

He was also the High Performance Coach for the Centre of Excellence, Brisbane 2012 before taking tenure as the Bulls and Heat Coach. In spite of this, and all of his dedication, Queensland Cricket has made him the scapegoat for their shortcomings and player performance. Stuart has been dignified in his sacking, being quoted as saying “After consultation with the Board, and much agonising, I have reached a decision to stand down from the position as head coach. That is not a decision that I have taken lightly but one that will hopefully produce the desired results for Queensland in the future,” and ”I wish the players, the support staff and Queensland Cricket all the best for the rest of the season.

I am a passionate, diehard Queenslander who hates losing and that will never change. And to the fans, thanks for your support and passion for what we do.”
Laying the blame at this man is immoral, unethical, and un-Queensland. This state is renowned for admiring its role models and leaders of sport, yet here we have an example of trial without judge or jury. We, as fans of cricket, and particularly Queensland Cricket, are seeking answers from the Board.

We, the undersigned, call on the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Queensland Cricket, to reinstate Stuart Law as Head Coach for Queensland Cricket. His termination was carried out surreptitiously and without foundation of fact.

We also call on the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Queensland Cricket to explain their actions from this process in a transparent and accountable manner.
