From September 2013 schools within Portslade will be short of junior places. The Governors of Portslade Infant School and St Nicolas C of E Junior School have met with Brighton and Hove Council to discuss the options that are available. There are only two options which are seriously being considered, that affect Portslade Infants and St Nicolas Junior School.

The Governors of Portslade Infants & St Nicolas Junior believe that the best solution is for Portslade Infants to become a 2 form entry Primary School, and for St Nicolas to become a 2 form entry C of E Primary School.

This approach will mean that our children will be able to grow and learn together in a school that is neither too big, nor too small, all the way through to age 11. And, having two Primary schools will give parents and carers in Portslade a choice about how they want their children to be educated.

The alternative is for Portslade Infants to remain a 4 form Infant School, and St Nicolas to become a 4 form C of E Junior school and for the 2 schools to merge in the near future to become a 4 form C of E Primary School. The Governors of Portslade Infants & St Nicolas Junior are worried as such a school is too big and the “close family” ethos would be lost.

We, the undersigned, who are parents, governors, teachers and community members of Portslade and Hove, call on Brighton & Hove Cabinet to support the change of both Portslade Infant School and St Nicolas Junior School into 2 form entry Primary Schools commencing September 2013.
