In 2005, Northumberland County Council amended its Primary School Oversubscription criteria, demoting 'siblings' from 5th to 6th position, effective from 2006/7.

Northumberland County Council is almost alone, amongst all LEA's in England, in deeming siblings as of such low rating.

The high birth rate of 2003/4, has resulted in a very high demand for primary school places in Cramlington, Northumberland. As such, oversubscription, particularly at Burnside school, has rendered 'siblings' of almost no relevance, meaning 8 families now face been split up.

These families must send their children to two different schools in the area.

Our petition is to harness support for a change in the criteria - which affects not just us 8 families, but will affect families across Northumberland for years to come.

We, the undersigned, request that Northumberland County Council amend their Schools Admissions Oversubscription criteria and give high priority to siblings.

In doing so, the Council will adhere to good practice, as recommended by the Government and enable families, with primary school children, to stay together.
