Maidenhead is about to face a significant capacity problem for primary school places. Oldfield School is an outstanding school which is oversubscribed and serves a growing community of young families.

It absolutely makes sense to extend it’s provision to a wider group of children. This is in line with the Conservative Party’s policy to expand outstanding schools in areas which lack capacity.

However the existing site is not big enough to accommodate double the number of children. Parents are very much against a split-site solution, and the Bray Road site is the only option in the catchment area which meets the core requirements for size, location, council ownership etc.

The decision was taken by the Borough Council to increase the size of Oldfield school in May 2010. The Bray Road site is the only suitable option which puts the needs of the children first.

We, the undersigned, call on the councillors of the Maidenhead Planning Control Panel to make a decision, one way or the other, on the proposal for an expansion of Oldfield School.

We ask councillors to thoroughly review the evidence already gathered around the site. There is no perfect solution.

We strongly believe the Bray Road site - which has been approved by the Borough in May 2012 following extensive consultation - offers the best opportunity to build a school which offers excellent facilities to the children and families of Bray and the surrounding areas; allowing Mr Jarrett, governors and staff to continue to provide an outstanding level of education and care to local children.
