LIDL APPLICATION APPROVED 19TH DECEMBER 2011
Maidenhead Development Control Committee have voted unanimously in favour of the Lidl application. We will now finalise legal issues with RBWM and Lok’nStore, before handing over to Lok’nStore to start the construction process.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank and congratulate all local residents who have supported us by signing petitions, sending emails, writing letters, and speaking to Councillors. We would like to extend special thanks to the residents that managed to attend the Planning Committee on Monday evening. Every single resident that has supported us in one way or another, has played an important role in securing our planning approval. The Planning Committee Councillors recognised the overwhelming public support during speeches at the Committee meeting.
We are extremely grateful for all the help that you have given us and we look forward to providing much needed choice and competition to the Maidenhead food retail market in the near future.
Please monitor this site for updates on the construction and pre-construction phase.
With sincere thanks,
Jason Gratton
Development Executive
*********************************************
Lidl have recently acquired (subject to planning permission) part of the former Target Ford site on Stafferton Way. The site has laid vacant for 9 years.
Lidl are proposing to demolish the existing building and redevelop to provide a new 4 storey building to be occupied by Lidl and Lok'nStore. The combined scheme will benefit from 73 parking bays of which 4 will be for disabled users and 2 will be parent and child users. The majority of parking bays will be allocated to Lidl shoppers.
The Lidl scheme will generate up to 40 full and part time jobs, with the self storage element of the scheme generating a further 5 full time jobs,
Our analysis has shown that when compared to the traffic generation of Target Ford the new development will result in 13 fewer cars on Stafferton Way in the morning rush hour, and 2 additional vehicles on Stafferton Way during the evening rush hour.
Lidl stock a limited range of products (c.1,600 lines) of which 95% are own brand. Due to the limited range, the store will generate a relatively low turnover (c.£3m p.a) which is equivalent to that of a Tesco Express. Consequently a Lidl store is complementary to other local retailers and does not create the same detrimental effect of a major multiple supermarket which may stock in excess of 30,000 lines.
