S-89 is a bill in Congress right now that would make military service mandatory for all US citizens (men AND women) from ages 18-26. High education (college or post-college) would not qualify anyone for deferment. HR 163 is a similar bill, and both are aiming to be in effect by Spring 2005 if passed. The only deferments would be for severe mental or physical disability, and dodging the draft would be extremely hard and carry harsh penalties. Dont let this bill get passed!
