Background (Preamble):
In 1997 the Australian Institute of Architects recommended 10 Murray Street, Hobart, a 1960s city building, for inclusion in the National Estate Register. Citta Property Group has bought 10 Murray Street and intends to demolish it as part of its redevelopment of the area surrounding Parliament House.
These plans are currently being considered by the Sullivans Cove Waterfront Authority, who must grant final approval for the redevelopment to commence early in 2010.

Petition:
We, the undersigned, believe the demolition of 10 Murray Street to be unnecessary and short-sighted.
We call upon the Sullivans Cove Waterfront Authority not to approve the redevelopment plan in its current form, in recognition of the building’s architectural and cultural significance.
We call upon the Tasmanian Government to intervene to protect this landmark example of 20th Century Australian architecture and preserve it for future generations.
