Verizon has submitted an application to Forsyth County to place a Cell Tower on the Scott’s Auto Center property on Majors Road and Peachtree Parkway (Rte. 141).
This would require the approval of two substantial variances: reducing the required distance from the tower to residentially – zoned lands from 500 feet to 277 feet, and reducing distance between towers from 7, 920 feet to 5,155.7 feet.
Please join us in our fight against Verizon’s construction of this intrusive tower which will change the landscape of our neighborhoods. The proposed tower is near several residential neighborhoods, three schools, a pre-school, and a church. If permitted, this tower will impact our neighborhoods for decades.
WE, the undersigned residents of Forsyth County, Georgia attest that we are in opposition to the installation of a Cell Tower on the property of Scott’s Auto Center at 820 Peachtree Pkwy, Cumming, GA 30041. We call on Forsyth County to DENY this application for the Cell Tower.
Impacted residents in the area have no substantial gaps in coverage with their carriers and feel that a cell phone tower should not be placed in the proximity of dense residential neighborhoods, three schools, a pre-school, and a church. Furthermore, we do not think the substantial variances being requested should be allowed as this would put the tower even closer to residential homes.
We want Forsyth County to protect our property values, tax base, and school enrollment from the negative community impact with which these towers are often associated, in particular the health risk mainly affecting children and the elderly.
We understand that federal courts have ruled municipalities have no obligation to allow these Cell Towers anywhere within their borders when no substantial gap in coverage exists.
We believe Verizon should be required to explore less intrusive means, and less populated areas, and they should explore alternative technologies which are being used elsewhere around the country.
Based on these reasons, Forsyth County should deny Verizon’s application for a Cell Tower and request for substantial variances.
