Background (Preamble):
A group of thugs that had arrived with Deputy Minister Mervin Silva had attacked the inaugural rally of the United Peoples Movement, even before it began, at around 2.30 this afternoon near the open air stage in Nugegoda.
Our reporters who were at the scene said over 100 thugs who arrived at the scene attacked the organizers and those gathered and destroyed all material and decorations. The rally was scheduled to commence at 4 pm.

Petition:
The Deputy Minister had arrived in his official vehicle bearing the last number 6969 on the number plate and the gang had arrived in 10 more vehicles. Three journalists who were at the scene had also been attacked.
A specialty is that no policeman had arrived at the scene until 40 minutes had passed by. Several policemen from the Mirihana police station had arrived at the location when informed, but had not taken any measures to take the situation under control or to evacuate the attackers. Instead when the thugs were burning the chairs and other equipment police officials had been having a nice chat with the deputy minister.
The aim of the rally was to raise a voice against the savage war that leads to division of the country, repression and hunger.
I am here with asking International community to take action againts Sri Lankan President and his Government.
So Sri Lankan President "Mahinda Rajapaksha" and his brother defense secterary involved in state terrorism. There are more than 2000 people killed or dissapeared in recent month under this government. The government is supporting para military troops and under world gangsters.
