Plagued by ground squirrels at Spokane’s Finch Arboretum, the city’s parks and recreation folks have strapped on their Rodenator Pro, a device that pumps propane and air into a tunnel, then triggers an explosion that apparently knocks rodents dead and sends dirt flying.

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Spokane Humane Society is trying to stop the blasting of troublesome squirrels at the Finch Arboretum.
Spokane Parks and Recreation is using a device called the Rodenator Pro to inject propane and oxygen into squirrel burrows, sparking an explosion that kills the varmints and collapses the tunnel.
Humane Society Executive Director Dave Richardson sent a letter to the Spokane City Council, saying the detonations are a temporary and unethical response to a problem that could be solved by limiting the animals' food supply.
The parks department said an overpopulation of squirrels is causing destruction at the arboretum, and blowing them up is the best way to deal with the problem.
This is horrible! Spokane is blowing up squirrels just because there are allegedly too many. It's totally inhumane and cruel!
The animals were just doing what comes naturally to them breeding so they continue their species, I mean seriously if humans became supper populated would you be ok with killing some off? just to keep the population down? these people that want to kill the poor animals need to learn to think of animals as humans not as well, animals, they have feelings too. And also how can you punish anything for something that they are intended to do?
I am strongly against this idea of blowing up the squirrels. It is in-humane and unethical.
