It has always been the option of some legislator both national and local government to sell government assets.
There is the plan of Aquino administration to push through with the sale of government’s Food Terminals Inc. (FTI) property in Taguig this year. Apparently, revenues to be generated from the sale of state-owned assets will help the government plug its budget deficit.
Likewise is the recent proposal of the immediate privatization of the operations of PCSO and Pagcor so that, accordingly, the allegations of misuse of funds and resources can be avoided.
If there are corrupt officials in these corporations, they should be held accountable for their misdeeds, instead of selling it to private entities.
Selling of government assets is not always the best choice. It changes the distribution of power within a society, as it lessens the control of the economy by the state through the government-appointed managers.
This is a petition to oppose on all proposals to sell government property in the Philippines especially the lucrative Government Owned and Controlled Corporations (GOCC).
The government is giving us the impression that we are gaining profit in selling these government assets, yet the proceeds of this sales are not accounted.
Corporations owned by the State should be developed and improved, instead of selling it to the private sector. These Government Corporations helps generate funds for the public use.
Selling them would be to the detriment of the public. Say no to privatization of our Government owned and Controlled Corporations. Because this will only allow the greedy individuals to profit from these iniquitous transactions.
