Petition Background (Preamble):
Mr Ilmars Poikans is being prosecuted just for exercising his rights to freedom of speech. He gained access to several clandestine salary lists of corrupt government officials and publicized them on the internet.
The officials babble about the need for strict economy, nevertheless, they still keep on receiving undeserved huge salaries and live in luxury. At the same time, 90% of Latvian people have been reduced to utter poverty, and hundreds of thousands have left Latvia seeking work and better living conditions abroad.
By signing this petition you will greatly help to improve the situation of human rights in Latvia as well as save Mr Ilmars Poikans from unjust prosecution and, eventually, long years of imprisonment.
