Through a combination of a government-mandated cartel, and restrictions on imports of dairy products, Canadian dairy producers have used our government to create policies that forcibly transfer hard earned dollars from the Canadian consumer into the pockets of dairy producers.
Canadian dairy prices are consistently the highest in the world due to a lack of competition, and the stifling of the free market.
According to The U. S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the price of dairy fell over 20% from June 2008 to June 2009, while Canadian prices increased.
Travelling to the United States to find a deal on dairy products is discouraged as well, as Canadians can only enter Canada with $20 worth of milk products.
We, the undersigned, call on The Government of Canada to:
1. Remove the Canadian Dairy Commission's monopoly on dairy products, thus ending unfair price fixing of Canadian dairy products.
2. Remove the personal exemption limit of $20 worth of dairy products when returning to Canada from the United States.
