Norfolk Public School Board believes that transforming Fairlawn Elementary School and Poplar Halls Elementary School will benefit our community and our children.

Poplar Halls Elementary will be reconfigured to serve students from pre-kindergarten to grade 2, with a strong focus on early literacy, language acquisition and vocabulary development, and with an (AVID) Advancement Via Individual Determination theme and a pairing with Fairlawn Elementary.

Poplar Halls was opened in 1959 serving grades 1-4, in September 1960 the school began serving children grades 1-5. Again in 1971 Poplar Halls was for grades 5 and 6, in 1973 the school began teaching grades K-5. Poplar Halls Elementary has been transformed 4 times already, thus the last transformation has been in place for 44 years. It is our belief that the structuring of the school should not happen again.

We the parents, community, etc do not want the Poplar Halls Elementary School transformation to happen.

We want Poplar Halls to continue to be a PreK-5 Elementary school, we believe that this is the most beneficial for the students within the school as well as the immediate community within Poplar Halls neighborhood.

The Stop Poplar Halls Transformation petition to Norfolk Public School Board & Norfolk City Council was written by Poplar Halls Elementary PTA and is in the category Education at GoPetition.
