In the state Massachusetts about 181,058 crimes are committed each year. About 184 of these crimes are murders and 1,634 of them are rape. The court system is unjust because the sentencing of the convicted isn't fair.

There are too many circumstances depending the amount of time the criminal spends in jail, if they even end up there. Murder and rape are two horrible crimes that one should just get a slap on the wrist for. They need to be in jail for a long amount of time.

Setting them free so early does not teach them a lesson, does not give the victim time to get their life back together without living in fear under the circumstance that they get that chance, and gives them an opportunity to reenact what they have done until they get caught.

We, the undersigned, call on the Massachusetts State Representative to change the law so that it states: Any person, male or female, who commits a murder or rape, should be incarcerated for at least fifty years to life. They should be evaluated throughout those 50 years and depending on there progress can be let out after that time.

If the criminal does not make any progress after his/her sentence is up, they must remain incarcerated for another 5 years, or until psychologists feel they are well enough to leave.
