Giraffe Childcare Group has lodged a DA for a 147 place childcare centre to be built at the former Balgowlah Electricity Substation which includes the neighbouring properties at 81 Griffiths St and 46 Boyle St. It would cover a 2200m2 site over 3 levels.

This would be a large commercial enterprise operating from 7am to 6pm, 50 weeks of the year. The area is zoned as R1 for low density residential housing.

We have major concerns regarding the following:
1. The safety of school children and pedestrians due to a considerable increase in traffic movements along Griffiths and adjoining streets around the proposed centre.
2. Inadequate onsite parking.
3. Increased pressure on parking and traffic in surrounding streets for residents and the local school community.
4. Noise to neighbouring properties 50 weeks of the year.
5. The size and scale of the development should be restricted to commercial or industrial sites.
6. Heritage considerations. The scale of the proposed development is unsympathetic to the original heritage building and the surrounding street scape.

We the undersigned, urge Northern Beaches Council to REJECT DA 112/2016 for a 147 place childcare centre to be built at the former Balgowlah Electricity Substation.

This development will have adverse effects on safety, traffic, parking and noise.

We therefore request that the council support the local community in maintaining the amenity of the local area and ensuring the safety of our children.
