Over recent years the media has hyped up negative issues surrounding offshore call centres. We are not asking for positive media reporting.

All we are asking is that all of the facts are presented and opinions are presented simply as opinions and not as facts.

We the undersigned, call on the British media to be in fair in its reporting of offshore call centres. Over recent years, the media has made scandalous reporting based on inaccurate information including the following.

The media has claimed that data security in offshore call centres is an issue. In most cases, the opposite is true as offshore call centres typically have stringent rules on data security generally more superior than their UK counterparts. In sharp contrast, the media is fair less interested in data security breaches in UK call centres or in other institutions.

There is a claim that jobs are being lost. Any HR Manager in a UK call centre will tell you that there simply aren't enough people wanting call centre jobs and if it weren't for offshoring, the phones would simply go unanswered or pushed towards unpopular automated systems.

The media constantly push the view that all offshoring is bad and all domestic centres are good. We respect that the fact that there a number of poor quality offshore centres and these typically go bankrupt as there is little demand for poor quality centres. There are however many good quality offshore call centres staffed by well trained and intelligent agents.

The media has a duty of care to its readers to present all of the facts and to present those facts in a fair and balanced way.
