Petition text:
Dear President and Prime Minister of India, MPs, MLAs, Vice Chancellors, Directors, Chairs, Principals, and Officials of Indian Institutions:
As you are aware, students, teachers, and professionals of the upper castes practice widespread discrimination and uncivilized behavior toward SC/ST students and professionals, which can be seen in all parts of India and its institutions, including the AIIMS. Institute officials and the Indian government have failed to provide constitutional rights, justice, and safeguards for SC/ST students and professionals. The AIIMS director has failed to protect SC/ST students, covered up complaints of SC/ST students, and protected the wrong-doers (upper-caste students, teachers, and officials).
To educate and empower the SC/ST community and secure their rights, we, the undersigned, demand:
(1) Removal and punishment of the AIIMS director and others involved in the AIIMS cover up and discrimination, injustice, and harassment.
(2) SC/ST representation in all classes, sports, cultural events, and professional levels in the AIIMS and all other institutions.
(3) Equal opportunity employment, equal opportunity housing, and a proper mechanism for resolving discrimination and harassment complaints.
(4) Cessation of funding for all institutions, including the AIIMS, if constitutional provisions, rules, and policies are violated.
(5) SC/ST representatives in all hiring, promotion, and firing processes.
(6) Positions allocated to SCs/STs kept vacant until suitable SC/ST candidate(s) is/are found.
(7) A policy followed by the AIIMS and Indian institutions that includes the following:
(a) Managing diversity (SC/ST/OBC) among employees by fostering an inclusive workforce, building an environment that respects the individual, and offering opportunities for all employees to develop their full potential
(b) Establishing and enhancing training for all students and officials on principles of diversity (SC/ST/OBC and others) management every year
(c) Establishing a comprehensive plan that includes processes for following up on complaints, resolving failure to comply, tabulating performance metrics, performing regular surveys, planning and implementing guidelines, and other appropriate measures
(d) Forming a diversity (SC/ST/OBC) committee that will develop diversity principles, goals, rules, and policies
(e) Reporting and documenting diversity (quarterly) to institutions’ management and government officials about the institutions in India and their achievements regarding diversity (SC/ST/OBC) management.
(8) Elimination of caste discrimination.
(9) Promotion of fair recruitment, selection, and career development processes with clear objectives and goals.
(10) Monitoring, detecting, and remedying caste discrimination and harassment in education, employment, social, and religious events.
