Watermead, is a unique parish on the outskirts of Aylesbury. The village is built beside lakes which offer wildlife habitats to nesting birds and many different species throughout its carefully maintained environment.

The public amenity land is a green lung for Aylesbury town and the surrounding population, enjoyed throughout the year by joggers, dog walkers and families enjoying the fresh air and peaceful atmosphere.
There is an outdoor gym and bandstand and full disability access with a walkway and wheelchair accessible fishing posts on the small lake, all of which contibute to the unique atmosphere.

Public entertainments are held on the land adjoining the lake, including a circus visiting twice a year. There are fetes and concerts and hot air balloon rides from the Balloon Field beside the lake. All of this is at risk. No balloons could take off with a crematorium chimney nearby.

The proposed crematorium would replace a restaurant on ground that frequently floods in winter, preventing vehicular access. Watermead is in the highest risk category for flooding and last year the car park of the restaurant flooded for several weeks causing it, and other businesses in Watermead, to close.

Planning permission has already been given for a crematorium in Bierton. Watermead has always been considered the least appropriate site for a crematorium, and remains so. The District Council seems unable to simply refuse the application.

The residents of Watermead fear this development, it will blight our community forever. It will change from being one of the most desirable villages in the area to the least desirable.

It is totally inappropriate to build any crematorium within sight of and within less than 500 yards of houses. There is insufficient land to hide the building from view. There is not enough space for ashes to be scattered or buried and we do not want to breathe the vapours from the crematorium chimney even if there are no emissions according to the developers.

It is morally and ethically wrong to even consider this application.

We, the undersigned, call on the Prime Minister and Secretary of State to stop Aylesbury Vale District Council from granting planning permission for a crematorium at Watermead, Buckinghamshire and further request that Aylesbury Vale District Council is instructed to re-examine this completely inappropriate development in a residential community.
