#Climate Change
Target:
The Government
Region:
United Kingdom

Buildings, particularly shops, tend to leave their lights on for at least a few hours after they have closed - if not overnight - which is wasting huge amounts of energy and contributing hugely to increased climate change.

If most, or all, buildings turned their lights off after hours, huge amounts of energy would be saved and this would be a huge step into stopping at least some of the potential deadly effects of increased global warming so this plan should be seriously considered.

Increased global warming is a huge threat to our planet now and for future generations. This threat needs to be decreased in order to preserve our homes, our lives, many wildlife species and some of Britain's most stunning natural features.

This would also allow the current coalition Government to take a positive step into keeping it's promise of being the "greenest government ever".

As well as this, in these different economic times, this would also have a benefit to the economy. Saving valuable money for businesses on spending less on electricity bills would allow more money to spent on their customers and even the local community - stopping the closures of services that are so valuable to many people.

We, the undersigned, call on the Government to debate in Parliament and aim to introduce a ban on all buildings in all major cities in Britain leaving their lights on after 10pm if they are closed at this time.
