For decades citizens of the USA have been duped into believing that highly efficient 40 and 50+ mpg automobiles was a thing of the future except for toaster crash boxes with lawn mower motors.
This is a lie being shoved down our throat to keep fuel prices higher. The government maintains roads with revenue from gas tax and big oil companies want to keep you buying as much $4.00 per gallon gas as they can force you to buy. Technologies have been buried by our government and Big Oil.
Recently Volkswagen unveiled the XL1. This car gets 261+ miles per gallon yet it will not be sold here in the US. You and I cannot own it. We are told it doesn't meet US safety and emissions standards. While this is total bologna even if it were true, I would rather drive a car that is a bit less safe but gets me 3000 miles per $35 fill-up. And emissions? What a joke.
If it uses 1/10th the fuel it is impossible that it is emitting more carbon. Further, VW has had the Passat Bluemotion 1.6 TDI out for years. This car gets 78 mpg imperial which translates to 65+mpg us. And it is a full sized automobile. Why is it not sold here in the USA? Why can we not purchase the Nissan Qashqai at 56 MPG or the SEAT full size Spanish sedan, the Toledo at 64 MPG us or the Renault Mecane at 85 MPG?? Why do you allow the big oil company lobbyists to control this issue? Has anyone reading this petition ever heard of the FORD Econetic?
This car is manufactured by FORD, right here in this country and gets 65 mpg and yet you and I cannot buy one. They are for foreign customers only. This needs to end and we would ask that you join with us by signing this petition and then helping get the word out by liking it on FB and sharing it on your timeline.
We the undersigned call on Barack Obama to use his executive authority to make a dramatic and permanent policy change in keeping with the spirit of your 2013 Georgetown university Speech.

These are your words: "The fuel standards that we put in place just a few years ago didn’t cripple automakers. The American auto industry retooled, and today, our automakers are selling the best cars in the world at a faster rate than they have in five years -- with more hybrid, more plug-in, more fuel-efficient cars for everybody to choose from."
Well Newsflash Mr. Obama...Our cars are not the most efficient. They are made to be inefficient and we the undersigned are sick of being forced into purchasing inefficient cars. Cars designed specifically to waste fuel.
We demand access to the available ultra efficient cars. We want the interests of your buddies in Big Oil and Detroit to be set aside in making this decision. We want gas tax revenue set aside for this issue. Represent the people for once during this administration.
We demand that an executive order be executed immediately allowing US consumers access to all of the high MPG automobiles available in Europe, including all of those listed in the petition pre-amble + the 20 or more that I do not have room to name here.
