On Wednesday January 8, 2014 our school, Golden Valley High School, held an assembly that banned the students from wearing California shirts/sweatshirts.
The First Amendment states “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”
Our school is violating our constitutional right by banning a shirt that shows our patriotism to our state. This petition is to allow our voices to be heard and to help protect our rights that we have.
We, the undersigned, call on Golden Valley to eliminate the ban on California Republic shirts and attire.
