Target:
Brown University Administration
Region:
United States of America

In March the Brown University administration announced the administration’s proposal to layoff over 60 employees.

These employees come from all over the University.

These employees, too, are valued members of our community.

We understand that the current economic climate presents a challenge to our university, but as a creative and resourceful institution, Brown has both the capacity and responsibility to meet this challenge while maintaining its obligation to its employees.

While we understand that some positions were eliminated for consolidation and efficiency, we demand that laid off employees be rehired in the positions maintained and created by the organizational review process. Furthermore, we feel that future restructuring must prioritize existing employees and job security.

We call for a renewed conversation on campus around the economic crisis and its implications for Brown, and a wholehearted attempt to find responsible financial solutions.
