An appeal to the SIU to re-open James Maltar's Case |

Published by Rob Maltar on Oct 03, 2008
Category: Justice
Region: Canada
Target: Special Investigations Unit. S.I.U.
Background (Preamble):
On September 18, 2005, James Maltar was shot and killed while in Police custody.
The SIU concluded that he overpowered two Police Officers and shot himself. We the family have not been given any proof that this was the cause of his death.
The evidence that the SIU collected does not support their decision not to persue the death of James Maltar as wrongful.
We feel the director of the SIU, James Cornish, misinterpreted the evidence regarding this case as well as several others around the same time as was concluded by the Ombudsman of Ontario on September 30, 2008. Andre Marin (Ombudsman) also concluded that the SIU has become complacent with regards to their investigations.
On October 15, 2008 Ian Scott will become the new director of the SIU. On the 30th of October we are imploring the new director of the SIU to re-evaluate the case of James Maltar and let the evidence speak the truth.
This is where we need your help. The Police need to be accountable for their actions in the same manner as any civilian would be. THE MALTAR FAMILIES!
