Background (Preamble):
There is a proposal to build a Waste Incinerator at Newhurst Quarry, Shepshed. Shepshed Against Incinerator Group was formed to campaign against the plan.
Charnwood Borough Council have an excellent record for recycling waste and there are much better, and safer methods of disposing of waste than incineration.

Petition:
We, the undersigned residents of Leicestershire, object to proposals for an incinerator at Newhurst Quarry (on the A512 near J23 M1 roundabout).
Emissions from an incinerator so near to a populated area would endanger the health of residents, contribute to global warming and increase heavy vehicle movements in the area.
The visual and landscape setting of Shepshed would also be degraded and regeneration of the Quarry area prevented for the foreseeable future.
