Here on the corner of South Union and East White Lane, we would like to see shelters with over head lights put over the bus benches. We are a "special needs" community that consist of, but is not limited to, the elderly and/or disabled. There are approximately 128 apartments, just on our corner. In which there are 1-2 people in each apartment. That's almost 300 people. Just on our corner, that doesn't include the surrounding communities that use the two (2) bus stops we use on the corner of South Union and East White Lane.
The majority of the people in our community use the public transportation system to get around town to doctors appointment, pharmacy trips, grocery shopping, etc. Most of us do not have family to rely on, so the bus system is the only means of transportation we can rely on. Being that we are elderly and/or disable in someway most of the bus patrons that catch bus #41 on the corner of South Union and East White Lane take any number of medications. Being exposed to the elements can have detrimental effects on the elderly and/or those taking certain medications.
The overhead lights are needed even more. The bus bench on the corner of South Union and east White Lane, #41 north, is set in the middle of a dirt field. There are no businesses, no house, nothing. So at night this corner is really dark. It is definitely an unsafe situation for those in our community. The bigger half of the community travel alone on the bus at any given time. For those of us who can't see well, or can't move to fast on our own, or are on medication are at risk of falling, being robbed, or worse. Please support our stand on "Shelter those who need it; Shelter's with Overhead Lights for the Disabled."
We the undersigned, call on Golden Empire Transit, to put shelters with overhead lights over the bus benches on the corner of South Union and East White Lane.
This request is required for the "special needs" in our communities. The majority of the people in our community are either or both elderly and disabled. The majority of us are also on any number of different types of medications that can be effected by the elements, this is also a problem with the elderly portion of our community. Certain medication have to be blocked from certain elements. Like the hot sun for instance. Will have a phototoxic effect on anyone taking medications like NSAIDs, diuretics, antibiotics, tricycline antidepressants, and so forth. Which happen to be some of the medications prescribed in our community. The overhead lights are needed even more.
The bus bench, #41 north, is set in the middle of a dirt field with no surrounding (business, home, or street) lights to luminate the dark. This is very unsafe for those in our community. That corner is pitch black at night and could easily be a hazard for those who cannot see so well, or cannot move to well on there own. Being that we live in a not so good neighborhood the risk of danger is even higher. The elderly could trip and fall in place where no one would see them until morning, or any of us could be mugged or worse.
