Some counties in Georgia do not require senior citizens to pay school taxes. The County in which we live does. There are many senior citizens living on a fixed income that is below poverty level and are still paying school taxes even they do not have children or grandchildren in the system.

At what age, at what income level, do you cease taxing the elderly for school taxes? Why are senior citizens not excempt statewide rather than just a few select counties?

We, the listed citizens of White County, Georgia, request that the White County Commission initiate action to implement a local exemption to provide property tax relief for our senior citizens.

Specifically, we request 100 percent relief from the County's property school tax levey beginning at age 65, without income limitations. Many Georgia counties have already enacted similar local exemptions for their citizens as authorized by the State Constitution.
