The Scenic Highway links the coastal towns of Yeppoon and Emu Park. Since cyclone Marcia came on February 20th 2015 the Scenic Highway has become one way traffic Southbound at Clayton's Road Lammermoor to Mulambin Road Rosslyn. The Northbound traffic is detoured through residential neighbourhoods. It is not a scenic route as it is named and would have an effect on the tourists using it. The detour is heavily used by 'Boaties' , tourists and residents that access the marina.

The detour roads have not been designed for highway traffic. The camber and speed limit of the roads have caused traffic to cross the white line on Mulambin Road. The straight stretch of road between Mulambin Road and Clayton's Road has many vehicles exceeding the speed limit. City buses also use this road.

The intersection of Rosslyn and Prospect streets and driveways onto Mulambin Road are dangerous to cross and back out of due to highway traffic and the 50 KM speed limit. The blind spot created by the gradient of the road and angle of the road are part of the danger for the detour highway. Pedestrians do not have a footpath for that dangerous part of the road.

Park View Drive off Mulambin Road detour has been blocked with barricades to stop the use of the through road due to dangerous drivers. Other residents and commuters affected by the Scenic Highway detour would like action as well.

The detour travels through several residential neighbourhoods and is causing noise and air pollution for these many residents.

The detour has added 2 KM extra and that in turn will cost the users through more petrol use and wear and tear on their vehicles. It will also add more time to the trip.

We require immediate action to repair and open the Scenic Highway from Clayton's Road to Mulambin Road to two way traffic.
