STOP THE CLOSURE OF ST DUNSTANS NURSING HOME OR FIND A NEW BUYER

My name is Kerry Hagland and my father resides at St Dunstans Nursing Home Pontypool Torfaen. Care provider HC1 announced its decision to close St Dunstans Nursing Home in Griffithstown, Pontypool. St Dunstans is a 39 bedded care home offering dementia, nursing and respite care.

HC1 met with relatives and staff at the home to inform them of their decision. The Commissioning Team Manager was invited to attend the meeting along with Senior Nurses from Aneurin Bevan Health Board, to re-assure families that they we will help them to find alternative placements for their relatives.

Only problem is these residents require EMI Nursing homes and there are no other EMI Nursing Homes in Torfaen that have any vacancies. AT ALL.

The company said that the decision was a difficult one for them to make; but they feel that the layout and environment of the home does not allow them to provide the standard of care that the residents of the home deserve. The company has also experienced on-going difficulties in attracting suitably qualified care staff and a permanent manager.

I know they have had qualified staff applying but the higher management make their jobs too difficult, its like banging their heads in the wall and the salary that is offered doesn’t match up to the experience they are expecting.

As for the environment? Well it’s been a care home for many years. Brick by Brick.

In the short of things we want to show we care not just in our community of Griffithstown but we want to show we care for the elderly not just here but in the world…never say never.
