Tonbridge is a small medieval market town with an attractive centre. But it's under threat. Developers see its strategic position for commuters and want to build intensively to maximise profits.
Tonbridge, however needs to compete as an attractive place to live and work with a variety of shops and attractions - on a human scale. We want to avoid being a 'clone' town.
We the undersigned call upon Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council to safeguard the future of the town by not permitting development of any structure over four storeys.
We further demand an thorough and on-going consultation with the residents to take into account issues of sustainability and scale of development.
We demand the council does not allow Tonbridge to become a clone, but instead builds imaginatively on the unique character of our home town.
