We ask that Alderman Burke and Villegas stop their campaign to remove or alter the Italo Balbo monument commemorating the transatlantic flight in 1934.

• The Balbo Monument consists of a pillar that is approximately 2,000 years old dating from between 117 and 38 BCE and a contemporary stone base.
• gifted to the city of Chicago in 1933 to honor General Italo Balbo's trans-Atlantic flight to the Century of Progress Worlds Fair.
• In saving this monuments destruction or alteration, we will have accomplished saving an important part of history.

After the current events in Charlottesville, it is understandable that the nation is on edge and that people are caught up in a frenzy of emotions. To channel their frustration, people have taken to monuments and statues as a way to channel their anger. While we understand that many people in our nation are angry, this is not an appropriate outlet. We stand in complete opposition to the removal or alteration of the historic Italo Balbo monument located in the city of Chicago. We respectfully ask that Alderman Burke and Villegas stop their campaign to remove or alter the Italo Balbo monument commemorating the transatlantic flight in 1934.
