The Aboriginal Family Wellbeing Service (AFWS), has been operating since the mid 90's, based Coffs Harbour & service also, the surrounding areas. The aim of the AFWS is to assist children and their families in trouble.
Our major aims are to, collaborate relationships with other services/agencies, case manage families through a holistic approach, to have the knowledge and skills for life & learning, about and within the wider community, intervention & prevention in closing the gap of life exspectancy, be the 'first point of call' for the Aboriginal & TSI community member that need direction & the core aim is to improve the lives of our families by making them aware of their cultural identity and how to adjust to social pressures. The end result is for the family to enjoy life.
Federal Govenment has decided that this service is no longer needed, so they have dropped AFWS's funding. Issues we deal with are, children, drug & alcohol, domestic volience, child abuse, healing, education, culture & elders, cross cultural living skills, anger management.
We the undersigned call on the Australian Federal Government to reinstate funding to the Aboriginal Family Wellbeing Service, Coffs Harbour NSW Australia hospiced by Gurehlgam Pty Ltd.
