Thanks to the nearly 900 people who stepped forward to support Spokane librarians between the online and paper petition. This number does not include the many national experts who took the time to weigh in on the matter, presenting research, offering services and lending support for our library program.

We are very grateful for their time and commitment to quantifying and qualifying the importance of school librarians to our students, our schools and our futures.

We are pleased to announce that the Spokane schools' Board of Directors recently listed library funding as one of their 2008 legislative priorities. We have launched a state-wide petition calling on Washington leadership to "ensure that Washington students have full-time access to school libraries and a certified teacher librarian to provide a competitive education in information technology and literacy." Thank you to Susan McBurney and Denette Hill for their tireless efforts in supporting this campaign.

Thanks to everyone who signed, shared and supported the campaign in their own way.

We, the undersigned, call on the Spokane Schools Superintendent and its Board of Directors to remove full-time elementary school librarians from its proposed list of budget cuts for the upcoming 2007-2008 school year.
