About 30 low-wage employees have walked off their jobs at Ramona’s Mexican Food Products in Gardena, encouraging a boycott of the company’s four restaurants until new management bumps their wages.
Each day from morning until evening the past week, the workers have stood in front of their employer’s Western Avenue headquarters to wave placards, chant — in English and Spanish — and ask people not to patronize Ramona’s four restaurants.
“We’re not asking for much,” said Martha Castaneda, 47, a supervisor at one of the restaurants. “We think it’s fair for all the employees to get a raise. We see that the restaurants are making money.”
Ramona’s President Henry Reed did not respond to requests for an interview.
