The Sabina Chandra Shekhar Garden & Playground aka Backgarden is one of the very few open spaces in Colaba perhaps the only open public space

It is used extensively as a recreational ground for football, basketball and other outdoor activities by
1 - Local residents of Colaba
2 - Schools in the immediate vicinity of the garden - Campion School, Saint Anne's School, Fort Convent School, The Pavement School, a charitable school (located in the garden) for slum children
3 - Other School & College Children from South Mumbai

There is an intention to construct a car park and swimming pool in the garden Not only will this greatly reduce the availability of recreational open space but it will also entail the chopping down of several trees some of which are over 100 years old.

We the undersigned call on the concerned authorities to preserve our Open Space (Sabina Chandra Shekhar Garden aka Backgarden) as it is and to refrain from chopping any of the trees located in the garden.
