Save Our Killingworth Environment

Lake Macquarie City Council currently has a planning proposal in place to rezone land from zone 10 investigation to a combination of residential and environmental.

The land under investigation needs to be zone as environmental. Lot 1/DP795370 has been identified as environmentally sensitive in the surveys completed by various Government agencies. This land has endangered ecological communities living within its boundaries. We need to save these communities.
I have photographs of Black Cockatoos who live in this area. There is also evidence of a Koala Habitat. There is also evidence of the Hinterland Red Spotted Gum which is on the threatened list.

The same lot also holds historical value to the community of Killingworth. This is the site of the Killingworth School and remains of the building are still visible. This is part of our heritage and must be protected.

There is also evidence of 5 Aboriginal sites within the proposed rezoning area. These are of high value to the people of the community and must be retained, not just 2 of the sites as recommended in the proposal.

A major concern is safety. Water pressure within the Killingworth suburb is low.
Killingworth is a known bush fire corridor. An increase in population with decrease the water pressure even further and increase the risk of residents and the Rural Fire Service not being able to protect lives.

The water pressure is very important to savings lives but equally important is access and the ability to leave the area quickly and without delay when the next bush fire occurs. Increase in the number of cars and people with greatly increase the risk to human life.

The proposed planning needs to be rezoned as environmental to protect all inhabitants of the Killingworth community before our way of life is changed beyond repair.
