The Haven is a charity organisation that was founded in 1973 which offers support to women and children who have suffered domestic violence and other forms of family abuse.
It offers this free support in a range of different ways including, emergency refuge accommodation, community support teams, and a diverse counselling team which has a number of specialist counsellors available to support the individual needs of those women and children who are referred to us.
These specialist counsellors include a senior counsellor/psychotherapist and trainer, a generic counsellor, an Asian speaking counsellor, a disabilities counsellor, a Children’s counsellor and a boys counsellor/ positive male role model.
The counselling service has been part of The Haven organisation since its inception in the early 70s, however we have recently found out last week that the funding for our service ends on the 31st of March, and as a result of this we are going to have to close!
If the counselling service ends at The Haven then there is absolutely no provision elsewhere within Wolverhampton for them to continue with this support. Women and children will be left completely isolated, and as a result could become depressed, suicidal, and even return to the perpetrator and consequently be subject to more abuse.
