Due to State Govt budget cuts, 20 small Tasmanian schools have been earmarked for closure. Mole Creek Primary School is one of them. It currently has approx 80 students and if closed, these children would have to travel and hour each way by bus to the nearest school.

Mole Creek Primary offers a high standard of education and wonderful extra-curricular activites as well. It services the small town of Mole Creek and its surrounds and is the heart and soul of the community. It is the meeting place for families and the school encourages parents to volunteer withint their childrens school. It has expansive grounds that are also well used by the community.

A recent upgrade saw $850,000 of BER funding spent on new multi-purpose facilites, toilets, library, computer room and offices, so capital expenses into the future would be minimal. The community have vowed to fight the closure.

We, the undersigned, call on the Tasmanian Education Minister, Mr Nick McKim, to abandon his governments plan to close Mole Creek Primary School as part of their 2011 State Budget.
