This petition objects to plans to build on designated "Green Belt" land at Corringham in Essex. This land should remain green belt and not be built upon.

This petition is in response to:

(A) 'Masterplan Options' put forward by the Thurrock Thames Gateway Development Corporation in January 2008.

(B) The 'Vision' for Thurrock set out in the Council's Local Development Framework (LDF) put forward by Thurrock Council in January 2008.

Specific sites mentioned in the plans at present are Green Belt land around Lampits Hill, Southend Road, Williamson Farm, East Thurrock Football Club and land between Southend Road and A13 at Corringham in Essex.

To appreciate the full extent of development proposed and the affect on our area please view the Private Sector plans providing more detail at:

http://www.colonnade-group.co.uk/developments/details/corringham

On this web site you will find the link to the document for Lampits Hill Corringham Development Framework (50 pages) and prepared for Colonnade Holdings and Iceni Projects (Dated 31st August 2006). The document states potential for 1,530 residential units and 14,000 sqm of employment potential on a 121 Acre site. Illustrative road layout, flats, housing etc are shown.

Land was accredited 'Green belt' status to protect the countryside and surrounding wildlife and prevent the over development of specific areas. It was put into place to ensure the natural beauty of our area. We do not want to see it diminish. If developers are allowed to 'get their hands on' Greenbelt areas so easily, then where will they stop and what is the purpose of allocating an area such status? How safe is the rest of our Greenbelt?

The proposal for a very large residential development and redevelopment of Gable Hall School with sixth form college and new infant school will dramatically affect the landscape, road structure, traffic volume and wildlife. It will destroy the beauty and harmony of the area in which we live and which we believed we were protected from under the title of 'Green belt' status.

So, please help us save this countryside! Sign our petition!

And, please, visit our above website for more information, updates and to get involved if you have any spare time.
