LA Housing Authority and A Community of Friends LA, CA

United States of America

The death of Anthony's mother (Sally Virgil) in (3/2013) left him in his families apartment of a Section 8 Plus Care Building with no rights. The LA Housing Authority is evicting this 17 year old because of his age. He is not 18 but will be 18 on July 3, 2013 a little more than a month.

The LA Housing Authority states Anthony does not qualify to keep the section 8 voucher (subsidy) his mother had because he is not 18, even though he was on the lease of this apartment as a tenant since Sept. 7th 2006. This is a low income, mental health subsidized building and they know Anthony is suffering from the loss of his mother and separation anxiety from the loss of his home due to this eviction.

The eviction notice will lock him out by June 21,2013. Please support this petition to help Anthony keep his home.

We, the undersigned, call on the Los Angeles Housing Authority to refrain from this unjust eviction notice you are supporting for A Community Of Friends against Anthony Bryant ...residing the Woodland Terrace Apartments in North Hills. The company "A Community of Friends" or (ACOF) are the owners of this Building.

(ACOF website states that they are a nonprofit affordable housing developer for people with special needs. Their mission is to end homelessness through the provision of quality permanent supportive housing for people with mental illness.)

Anthony thought his home was permanent until ACOF did not advocate for him after the death of his mother but instead evicts him in a dark tragic time of his life. ACOF'S states their mission is to end homelessness through providing permanent supportive housing for people with mental illness.

ACOF's website states... Our housing complexes provide a stable environment to more than 1,300 adults and several hundred children. (THAT SAID CHILDREN) To ensure that tenants stay housed and gain self-sufficiency, ACOF provides services either through our own staff or through collaborations with other agencies. Simply, if ACOF wished to help Anthony gain self-sufficiency like their website states they would help him through this tough time, not evict him. Their grounds are that Anthony is not 18 and therefore can not take over his mother spot as Head of Household on the voucher. If ACOF wanted to they could make a Special Accommodation for Anthony.

California state child home alone law does not have an age requirement, no laws have been broken. Since Anthony is a little more than a month short of being an ADULT, we the Tenants of Woodland Terrace feel he should be granted a Special Accommodation.

We the Tenants of Woodland Terrace support Anthony Bryant and we want him to remain in his families housing unit that he has lived in for the past 7 years. Or have ACOF help him transition into suitable housing. He is a clean, honest hard working student that deserves a chance in life.
