SAMs have been transferring to SAO position by choice for well over 10 years. This transfer opportunity for SAMs was stopped in 2011 with NO warning or explanation.

Compassionate transfers are only if numbers drop and personal family reasons are not classified as exceptional enough to gain one.

A SAM has the only position in the whole of the DEC that does not have the right to voluntary demotion or to a service transfer.

Should a SAM's circumstances change they have no recourse for movement within the DEC except on merit selection.

The definition of discrimination is the prejudicial treatment of an individual based on their membership in a certain group or category. It involves the actual behaviours towards groups such as excluding or restricting members of one group from opportunities that are available to another group.

This definition clearly defines what is happening to a SAM's opportunities within the DEC.

We need action and we need it NOW.

We, the undersigned, call on the Public Service Association to fight the discrimination shown to a SAM and to ensure that a SAM has the right to voluntary demotion and transfer into a SAO positon.
