Our neighborhood crime rate has gone up significantly over the last 10 years. There are school bus stops at almost every corner and although there are stop signs, not everyone respects them. On the corner of Washington and Bewley street there is only 1 stop sign where you are able to turn left of right onto Washington but there is no stop for incoming traffic that speeds by without looking.
Vehicles do not stop for children crossing nor do they wait for the bus to finish dropping of students at their stops. We have seen countless cars almost run over families trying to get home.
In the evening, you will see an increase of traffic due to prostitution. Many provocatively dressed women walk around the neighborhood in barely any clothing and jump in front of cars to get their attention. Our neighbors are tired of this activity and need to stop this now.
We, the undersigned, call on the City of Santa Ana to improve the safety of our community by moving dangerous traffic out of our neighborhood.
We propose that one or more of the following measures be taken:
1. Divert traffic out of Bewley, 11th & Washington streets from Harbor Blvd.
2. Place "Watch for Children" signs throughout the neighborhood
3. Place stop signs at the intersection of Washington and Bewley Street
