We the family of Daron Powell demand that more lights and cameras are installed at Rumbold Park, increase police patrolling, and enforced park curfew.
My son Daron Powell was murdered at Rumbold Park in North St. Louis City on August 23, 2014. He was hanging out with his older brother, his cousin, and friends from the neighborhood about 9pm.
While they were walking back to the car to leave gun shots rang out so they took off running. My son yelled, “I am hit” my oldest son ran up to assist him in running because he had been shot in the flank but about a couple of minutes later he collapsed. My oldest son was there with him and he held his hands while telling him to hold on. Once the ambulance arrives they rushed him to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead. There is no pain that compares to a parent losing their child.
We call on Mayor Slay and Alderman Moore to make the necessary improvement to provide a safe environment at Rumbold Park.
We need to force out all the drug activity that is handled in that park. We need to provide a safe environment for the children in that community to attend Rumbold Park without being afraid.
