LYCS

Ireland

As you are aware in March 2011, after a lengthy process, LYCS and NCCCAP were awarded a grant of €630,000 from FAS to refurbish the school. The prime purpose was to enable both LYCS and NCCCAP to merge their services and to be re-housed in the school.

The school is in the ownership of the Dublin Diocesan Trust and they are in negotiations with Dublin City Council (DCC) to hand over the property in lieu of an exchange of lands arrangement for the new school which was recently built on DCC lands on Sean MacDermott St. DCC have agreed that LYCS/NCCCAP can refurbish the former school on completion of these negotiations.

However, FAS cannot commit to ensuring that the grant can be brought forward into next year and we have written to Minister Ruairi Quinn outlining our request to have the money brought forward into the 2012 budget.

Our aim now is to start a petition and bring it to the Minister before the forthcoming budget and your help is needed.

Can you please ask all your participants to bring it home and to get their family, friends, neighbours to sign it too.
