Target:
Twp of Parsippany/ State of New Jersey
Region:
United States of America

There is a movement under way to petition the State Dept. of Transportation to erect sound barriers along Route 80 near our homes.

There have been numerous attempts in the past to put up sound barriers along Route 80 in Parsippany. In the Fiscal Years 2005 – 2007 the State Dept. of Transportation Improvement Program granted $11,500,000 to construct segments of noise barriers located along both eastbound and westbound I-80 from the vicinity of Baldwin Road to east of the Passaic River.

We were recently informed that this project has been put on hold because of other “more pressing” issues. It is imperative for the quality of our life that this barrier be constructed.

The sound is extremely loud. It is disturbing the residents that live near Rt 80. There are many large tractor trailers that travel Rt 80 day and night. At times the noise shakes the homes of those living near the highway. It is difficult to sleep with the level of noise coming from the highway.

Many of the homes are backed up close to the highway due to code. Homes are to be set back 40 feet away from the street curb according to Parsippany Twp. code.

There also have been a number of burglaries in the area and records show that many of the burglars made their escape on RT 80 because it is easily accessible.

It is for the safety of the many children and residents who live in this area as well as for the loud noise created from this highway that a barrier be erected.

If we all cooperate by signing a petition and sending it to the State Dept. of Transportation it is possible we can put this project back on the table and into action. Some of the neighbors have volunteered to go door to door to collect signatures for this petition. Others have volunteered to write letters to the Commission of the Department of Transportation. You can help too, by signing this petition.

We the people of Parsippany, NJ ask that the State Department of Transportation reinstate the Transportation Improvement program that was approved and funded for in FY 2005-2007.

The project consists of construction of a sound barrier located along both eastbound and westbound I-80 from the vicinity of Baldwin Road to east of the Passaic River. This was proposed to be erected from mileposts 44.34 – 53.13 in municipalities Parsippany-Troy Hills Twp, Wayne Twp., Fairfield Twp, and Montville Twp.

This is a multi-year funded project under the provisions of Section 13 of P.L.1995, c.108.
