Over the past few years, numerous residents and the Parish Council have approached Somerset County Council and pleaded for road safety measures in Barwick and Stoford. Most notably asking for speed reduction measures in Hoopers Lane, Newton Road and a 20mph limit in the area around the Barwick & Stoford School - One of the only infants/primary schools located in the middle of a 30mph area.

So far, SCC have refused to take these requests seriously and have turned down all requests for safety measures. Speed indicator devices installed by SCC have demonstrated high proportions of vehicles travelling at over 60mph (with over half travelling above the posted 30mph limit) in Stoford. Parents of school children also regularly report concerns over "near misses".

What we have asked for can be achieved with a handful of 20mph signs (at around £30 each) and road markings to give the impression of a narrower road, causing drivers to reduce speed.

We, the undersigned, petition Somerset County Council to implement permanent, fixed, speed reduction measures in Barwick and Stoford to include a 20mph restriction around Barwick & Stoford Primary School (Barwick) and speed reduction measures on Hoopers Lane and Newton Road (Stoford).
