Since the 1980's people in the Embobut area in Marakwet, Elgeiyo Marakwet County, encroached in the Embobut forest and settled. This has affected this ecosystem which forms the core of the cherangani water tower.
Cherangani water tower is the source of many rivers among them, Rivers Arror draining to lake Turkana, River Moiben draining to lake Turkana, river Chepkaitit e.t.c.
These rivers supply water to Eldoret town in Uasingishu county, Kitale in Transzoia county, Kapenguria in west Pokot county and Iten in Elgeiyo marakwet county.
We the undersigned, call on the county assemblies of Elgeyo marakwet county, Uasingishu county and Turkana county and the ministry in charge of special programmes to resettle all the people living inside Embobut forest to allow for reaforestation of this important ecosystem.
