The Streets in the Westhollow area of North Dallas (West of Midway, North of Walnut Hill, East of 35 and South of LBJ), are in extremely bad shape. A news 8 story last year stated that the streets in District 13 of Dallas are in worse shape than all other districts. Ann Margolin is the City Council member for District 13, soon to be Jennifer Staubach Gates.
This issue has been brought to Margolin's attention numerous times as well as the Streets department of the City of Dallas. However, no action has been taken other than occasional patching.
Patching the streets is not enough as most streets are crumbling, bumpy, and need to be completely repaved. From our own research, the last time a complete reconstruction was done in the Park Forest neighborhood was over 30 years ago.
In 2006 and 2012 there were bond elections for improving the streets in Dallas. However, Westhollow has yet to see any improvement as a result of this bond package yet are paying higher taxes as a result of it.
The citizens of the Westhollow area demand that our streets be reconstructed and/or completely repaved (not merely patched or thin layers of asphalt applied) by order of condition (from worst to least needed repair).
We are tax paying citizens and are tired of seeing surrounding neighborhoods receive attention to their streets, sidewalks, and other infrastructure, but nothing is done for the crumbling of our own.
This petition is a plea to the City of Dallas, to Jennifer Staubach Gates, the City of Dallas Streets department, etc. to immediately begin repairing our streets by repaving them completely, not merely patching with asphalt.
We, the undersigned, call on the City of Dallas, to jennifer Staubach Gates, and the City of Dallas Streets department, as tax paying citizens to immediately begin repairing the streets within the Westhollow (North of Walnut Hill, South of LBJ, East of Josey Lane, and West of Midway) borders, by repaving them completely, in order of worst to best condition, not merely patching with asphalt, and to receive equal treatment to surrounding neighborhoods whom have received street repair without the need that ours have.
